Regardless of which birdhouse you choose, location is all-important. The setting will depend on the types of birds that frequent your area. Different species also prefer varying heights, too. Houses situated at three-five feet may be a draw for bluebirds. This provides an added benefit for kids who can observe avian behaviors from a closer perspective.
Flycatchers, on the other hand, prefer their shelter located at about 10 feet and even better if it's mounted in the shelter of a tree trunk. You can also hang bird houses from hooks, stands and tree branches. Swaying in the breeze is one way to prevent unwelcome guests and the birds will love the flowing motion, too. |
